Why Declare African American Studies?

The Department of African American Studies is the intellectual home for the academic exploration in African American Culture and Life, Race and Public Policy, and Global Race and Ethnicity; it is where African American studies meet the 21st Century experiences.

Seated in the heart of Princeton University, the Department of African American Studies has a well-established history of challenging society's norms, pioneering change, and shifting the culture. Our diverse and world-renowned faculty is a reflection of just that. We challenge students to see more than the theoretical, but the applicable lessons in everyday life. Our growing curriculum is designed to provide flexibility for our Concentrators and certificate recipients. We pride ourselves in our dedicated advisors and staff who provide a roadmap with each student's end goals in mind. With our dedicated Alumni network; our resources extend far outside of the classroom, and are a prime example of the endless possibilities graduates have.
