Rosed Serrano was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. She is a member of the Class of 2018 pursuing the Global Race and Ethnicity track within the African American Studies Department, as well as a certificate in Creative Writing with an emphasis on poetry. Her research interests include African diasporic literature and black feminism. She is especially interested in understanding the politics derived from music, visual art and literature. She completed her most recent research project in Brazil analyzing the poetics of a black female collective based in Sao Paulo, which criticized the myth of racial democracy. She explored how the black female body has been discursively erased within racial theories and how the collective’s poetry undermines these theories and reimagines black female liberation. On campus, Rosed is a fellow for the Carl A. Field Center, tour guide at the Princeton Art Museum, Peer Health Advisor with University Health Services and the production manager of The Stripes Blog.
