Doctoral Candidate
Co-host, AAS Podcast

Mélena (Mae) Laudig is a second-year doctoral student in Religion and African American Studies at Princeton University. She studies histories of nineteenth-century African American Christian missionaries who travelled to Africa and the Caribbean to evangelize. In particular, she examines how these transnational movements constructed ideas about gender and sexuality and provided opportunities for Black religious freedom. Before arriving at Princeton, Mélena earned her Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from Yale University in 2019.
