Hailing from Detroit, Michigan, Brooklyn Northcross is a third year student majoring in African American Studies while minoring in Computer Science. In her studies, she is interested in the function of African American culture, paying particular attention to how such culture manifests in the black metropolis. Through this line of inquiry she hopes to not only understand the history of the urban African American experience, but also ponder the potential of black futurity. On campus, Brooklyn is involved in the Ida B. Wells Just Data Lab where she is currently co-producing a film that challenges dominant depictions of safety in popular culture in order to reimagine community wellbeing through a holistic lens. She is also the co-president of the Princeton Association of Black Women and Vice President of DoroBucci, Princeton’s premiere African dance team. In her free time, Brooklyn loves to pursue creative outlets of expressions, such as painting and designing clothes.
