Azariah Jones is a rising Junior from Kingston, Jamaica majoring in African-American Studies with certificates in Dance, Theatre, and African Studies. Azariah is most interested in the ontological history of the Black body within multiple realities and forms, particularly within the transnational and post-colonial contexts of Caribbean artistic forms and aesthetics. As a dancer, her lens is heavily influenced by performance and its ephemerality, emphasizing her belief that the mechanisms of practice and existence—both consciously and subconsciously—can be rich tools for understanding and experiencing a Black reality. As her studies continue, Azariah hopes to further explore the intersections of Black performance theory through dance, film, archival study, and exhibition style works. 

On campus, Azariah is Artistic Director of Princeton's premier contemporary and hip-hop dance group, BodyHype Dance Company, a practicing visual artist, and an award winning filmmaker. Her film, Lessons In Exile has most recently received the Global Emerging Filmmaker Award from the Student World Impact Festival (SWIFF) and a nomination for streaming on Amazon Prime, as well as an Honorary Mention from the UCHV Short Film Prize at Princeton. She is also a new member of the AAS Board of Undergraduate Advisors and a member of the Technical Team at the Lewis Center for the Arts. 

In her down time, Azariah loves to read, some of her favorites being A Tale For A Time Being by Ruth Ozeki and Under the Udala Trees by Chinelo Okparanta.
