Black Poetry: A Gala Reading kicks off an historic three-day gathering of more than 40 black poets of different generations, geographies and aesthetics, Black Poetry: A Conference

Poets who will read at the Gala event include Elizabeth Alexander, Kwame Dawes, Toi Derricotte, Rita Dove, Yusef Komunyakaa, Haki Madhubuti, Harryette Mullen, Sonia Sanchez, and Kevin Young.

The conference and reading are organized by U.S. Poet Laureate and Director of Princeton’s Program in Creative Writing Tracy K. Smith, Associate Professor of English Joshua Kotin, and Princeton Arts Fellow Jaamil Olawale Kosoko and are sponsored by the Lewis Center for the Arts/Program in Creative Writing, Bain-Swiggett Fund/Department of English, Humanities Council, Department of African American Studies, University Center for Human Values, Department of Comparative Literature, Program in Canadian Studies, Program in American Studies, and Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program in the Humanities.
