Event Description

The Department of African American Studies is excited to welcome the Class of 2029 at this year’s Academic Expo, happening on Monday, August 25, 2025, from 1:00–4:00pm at the Frick Chemistry Laboratory.

Our department offers an innovative and interdisciplinary approach to the study of African-descended people, with a focus on their experiences in the United States and across the globe. Through coursework and research, students explore the dynamic interplay of political, economic, and cultural forces that shape histories, identities, and movements.

The Department of African American Studies offers both an Undergraduate Major and an Undergraduate Minor that expand and deepen a students understanding of race in the United States and in the world. Students who pursue and fulfill all requirements for the Major are awarded a Bachelor of Arts in African American Studies. Alternatively, the Certificate in African American Studies is equivalent to an academic ‘minor’ in African American Studies. Undergraduate students in both programs select from the same course offerings.

We look forward to seeing you there!
