Department of African American Studies

We provide an exciting and innovative model of African American Studies.
The Department of African American Studies was founded in 1969 in response to the widespread student demand for black intellectual representation at Princeton University. Today, we continue with that same vigor through a curriculum that reflects the complex interplay between the political, economic, and cultural forces that shape our understanding of the historic achievements and struggles of African-descended people.
