Material Matters in African Art

Dr. Christa Clarke, a specialist in historic and contemporary African art, will offer a history of Western responses to the surfaces of African sculpture and will explore the [symbolic, ritual, and aesthetic] meanings of materials for works on view in the special exhibition Surfaces Seen and Unseen: African Art at Princeton. A reception will follow at the Princeton University Art Museum
